This one was fun,
The customer had asked us to make a desk out of a mini that they supplied.
We picked the vehicle up from it old home and brought it to the workshop in
a very sorry crashed state.
We had to first strip it of all its parts that were not going to be used.
We then cut off the roof and passenger floor area where the person was to
sit.
After that was done we needed to make the mini structurally sound by adding
strengthening bars to the sides and across the width.
Next we had to get a desk top fabricated by Wayne Barrett to fit the profile
of the mini.
We followed this by cutting the damaged front end off of the car and replacing
the front panel and various supports,
this
was then painted and a new grill and bumper was fitted.
After that we removed the suspension and replaced it with solid bars to allow
the desk to be solid. Oh and the car can still be
pushed around if needed (just let the handbrake go and shes off)
Next was to cut the windscreen down to make it removable untill we got the
car into its resting place where we
would put the screen and surround back in.
The main reason for this was to enable us to crane the mini sideways into
a third floor window, Yes you heard me right.
Not only did the client want us to build this crazy idea of a desk but they
wanted us to get it craned into there office window,
three stories up. Bit tense!
But hey we are professionals and we got the job done..
